Summary[]

Anubis is a minor antagonist featured in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. Despite being a character, however, Anubis takes the form of a spirit that possessed a sword, making the sword the Stand.

It is most effective in close-range combat, as it has a variety of moves that can deal good damage to any opponent when used correctly.

This Stand is a part of the Arrow Stand Pool, in which it has a 16.5% chance (C-Tier percentage) of obtaining it from a Stand Arrow

Appearance[]

Anubis appears as an approximate version of the mythological Anubis it's named after Egyptian mythology, with a human body and a jackal head.

It's bound to a thin scimitar with an elaborate, jeweled-encrusted cross-guard complete with a scabbard. However, rather than Anubis itself, only the sword appears in-game, rather than the Anubis God.

For the sword itself, The sword has an angelic look, it has a long grip, following with a long curved blade. Befitting its namesake, Anubis possesses a black lead in both the colored manga and anime. Its headdress is also yellow in both media.

The light version has low startup and increases your movement speed for its duration, while the heavy version has longer startup but launches the opponent, allowing for a combo.

Battle Strategies[]

Anubis, despite seeming simple and not that strong, can actually hold its own against even the toughest stands, including Over Heavens. Despite appearing simple, Anubis is actually quite complex, comparable to that of Shadow The World. Anubis can use its RNG based damage range to its advantage, granting varying damage on combos which can grant you higher damage then normal. Anubis can also ignore counters because its slashing moves are actually considered projectiles, so they will go through counters that are vulnerable to projectiles. Anubis is a fast stand with great pokes such as possessed E and F, and unpossessed m1 and E. A large part of the gameplay will involve something known as a 'Parry dash'. What this means is while using parry, you are able to roll or cancel into another move, this is your main combo starter and should be used often, it is important to get this down (Note that it is recommend you are to the left of your opponent when using this move, as it will otherwise miss due to the hitbox registration). During combat, you don't want to stay in neutral (both players playing defensively waiting for something to happen), a big part of the game plan is to bait your opponent into making a mistake, and swiftly punishing. You are able to do this until you basically win. Anubis, while not the best combo stand, has some good combo potential and damage, especially with using a parry dash as a starter. Make sure you understand your options and you can win against most stands.

Pros:[]

  • Dashing distance is further than most abilities in-game.
  • Bypasses counters in Possessed Mode due to the game considering some attacks projectiles.
  • Low cooldowns.
  • High mobility.
  • A plethora of combos with decent damage output.
  • Long range pokes (LMB, R, F)
  • Parry provides an amazing low CD combo starter, defensive option, and reversal.
  • Roll has more iframes then a standard roll, allowing you to dodge attacks easier

Cons:[]

  • T is a contender for the worst move in the game.
  • No ranged attacks.
  • Low damage outside of combos.
  • It is possible for people to hit you while you are holding them on your sword (R move).
  • Does not have a stand jump to avoid time stop, which forces you to tank up with the block or use T.
  • Confusing hitboxes
  • When switching, you can't move for a short time and can give your enemy a free move.
  • Parry has an incredibly small hitbox and you need to be on the left of the opponent to hit consistently (applies to parry dash as well)
  • No combo starters that are simultaneously both easy to hit and quick in startup.

Trivia[]

Anubis[]

  • Anubis received a rework that was shortly reverted. It's moves consisted of a tripping move, a throw move where the victim is thrown upwards, spammable slashing and a short leap. Anubis also gained 1 voiceline which is: "I will take your life."
  • Anubis's LMB attack is slightly faster in Unpossessed mode.
  • When in normal mode, the hilt of Anubis is wrapped in cloth since when a person directly touches the hilt, they get possessed by Anubis.
  • Anubis has one quote, which is: "Anubis is the strongest stand. Die!". This quote is from JJBA: Heritage for The Future, quoted from Khan's battle intro. The quote plays during the R move in Possessed Mode, hence the delay before the strike.
    • Regarding this quote, it's actually a mistranslation of the quote from HFTF. The quote from the game is "Anubisu no anji no sutando sa. (アヌビスの暗示 の スタンドさ. )", and the "Die!" part of the quote in ABD was spliced in from a separate quote in HFTF (Khan's 5S). What the quote translates to isn't "Anubis is the strongest stand. Die!", it's simply "The stand of Anubis. Die!". But the current translation is funnier so who cares.
    • This quote was removed for 2-3 years before its recent re-addition to the game in the 3.5 update, the final update of 3.0.
  • It is one of the few stands that can suddenly change their move set, the others being Crazy Diamond, Gold Experience, Tusk, King Crimson (Two Arm Doppio), and Silver Chariot
  • This stand is needed for the Samurai quest, the requirement being to deal 2000 damage with the normal mode.
  • In possessed mode, Anubis bypasses counters like the Over Heaven Stands.
  • The E move in Normal Mode does not hit Dummies.
  • The blade has a purple trail following it, similar to The Emperor's bullets.
  • This is one of five stands in the game to not be humanoid, others being DKC, TADKC, The Emperor, and Mr. President.
  • Anubis is currently the only Stand to have a right click ability.

Chromatic Anubis:[]

  • Contrary to its normal counterpart, Chromatic Anubis has its own model, quote, and pose music.
  • It takes inspiration from the video game Castle Crashers.
  • Unlike other Chromatic stands, Anubis is the only one to have a unique appearance compared to the others, letting players to refer to it as a Shiny version of the stand.
